Sleeping Child

Li' Aidan in his jumping sheeps pjs!

Putting Aidan to bed at night has become kinda enjoyable. It used to be so stressful trying to get Aidan to sleep when he was less than 2 months old coz he will always jerk awake whenever we try to place him in the cot n then, it will so tough to get him to sleep. Now, it's almost a breeze !!

He will start feeling a tad drowsy from abt 8pm onwards (after his 2nd last feed of the day) and we will let him rest in the cot, and just play with him for a while. Here's when he will make the most baby talk..Tres cute!! One automatic way to get him to 'talk' is to press his chubby cheeks..another way is by making eye-contact and chatting with him. He usually will stare at us with his eyes wide open and start 'talking' to us.His fav sound at the moment seem to be Ah Poooo and Qooooo made in that breathless babyish voice. Hee..now, we so wanna get him to 'talk' but I guess pretty soon, we won't be able to get him to keep quiet..

After his last feed, at @10pm, he would be so zonked out that he will be asleep even during the feed. Problem is..we can't burp him as a process as he will just lay down in our arms limply. So we will just do away with the burping and just lay him down into the cot n he'll just zz the night away. But if he jerks awake, we'll just let him suckle his own fingers and he'll just fall asleep after chooking at it for awhile (he doesn't like the pacifier - we tried!)..Sometimes we wonder whether we are doing the right thing by letting him suck his hands but we were thinking that since it helps to 'pacify him', why not..just as long as his hands are kept clean and hopefully,we would be able to wean him off his digits !!

Hahaha. Yeah, very demure... but what would he think of that when he grows up and finds out his mommy called him DEMURE! So I used guai instead.

I guess as u guys get settled into a regular schedule and all, he will seem more guai coz everything follows a set pattern, so not so stressful for both mom and babe. (wah, I talk like I've had kids before. LOL)

Re:
Heh..I'm so tempted to put Aidan in a dress to see how he looks :P..but that will probably scar him for life (heh..or I can use it to blackmail him in future)..

Yeah, i guess u r rite abt the regular schedule part. And hee..u are now equipped to be a mom already since u know the basics!

Breastfed babies dun need pacifiers
I read some where that breastfed babies do not like pacifiers, think its quite true, Nicole also dun like it; think they can differentiate between the pacifier and mommy's breast.

U one lucky mommy whose ds sleeps thru the nite. My dd will also chook on her own hands, and the more she chooks, the hungrier she gets then she will cry for me...sigh. Record is every 2 hrly feed during the night...

A very tired and sleepy mommy

Yeah...we are v lucky that Aidan sleeps thru the night..Hubby's female mummy colleagues have been telling him that's he should b grateful as some of their kids who are 1plus yr old still wakes up abt twice per nite!
Eeouch! 2 hrly feed per nite must b v *siong* for u! And u are working somemore! Poor u! Hopefully, Nicole will get into the pattern of sleeping longer soon (I read that it's usually from 3 months onwards)..

My 2 girls also thumb suckers.
I figure it's easier than if the pacifier gets lost in the middle of the night, then SOMEONE (aka me) has to wake up and go look for it for them. Almost the same as having to get up for night feed.
So they've learnt to pacify themselves.
And yah, none of my kids took to the pacifier either.

The weaning part was quite killer tho.
Megan was almost 4 before she gave it up. She swore she would on her 4th birthday, and with a few slip ups, she managed. She still does it sometimes nowadays, but only deep in her sleep.
Good thing she didn't suck until "rotten thumb"!

Tasmin only sucks her thumb when she's tired and sleepy, or when she's unsure of her surroundings.

Re:
Aidan doesn't suck thumb (hubby says coz he can't aim)..he sucks his entire hand and I'm sure if he can, he'll stuff it all into his mouth!

Oh-oh..u jus scared me abt the weaning part. But like Tasmin, he only sucks his hands when he's really tired & sleepy.1

My friend told me his horrific experience with thumb sucking... He used to suck his thumb when he was young, until part of it turned greenish-black ("rotten thumb"?). The mother had such an extreme way of curing him of his thumb sucking. She took a knife, heated it up a little, and simply sliced off the greenish part. That immediately weaned him off thumb sucking forever. Yeah, scary right. I was having dim sum with him and his mother when he told me about it. Had to try to hide my expression... I think parents these days will never do this kind of thing to their kids...

Scary parents he had.
