Nov. 4th, 2004

I was rather touched when I read Kenerf's latest entry and knowing that my 'motherhood monologues' as how he termed it has affected him in a way.. Most of you would know that I've started this LJ in October of 2002, primarily to ramble about my pregnancy as I was then unemployed and bored and waiting for the birth of the wee one..As my entries and picture gallery grew, so did the no. of LJ friends I've made, some of whom had followed my journey tru motherhood from the beginning till now. I've written a total of 460 entries, including this one,of which about 90% is about my Aidan, posted 10,722 comments and received a total of 16,766. Interesting stats which I'd never looked at before.I admit, I do relish the fact that there are people there who enjoys reading my journals even though it ain't exactly witty like xiaxue's or intellectual & funny like mrbrown's. Sometimes, I suspect people reads my journal just to ogle at the latest pic of Aidan :)

While looking back at some of my older entries, I realised that I used to write with more wit and creativity. I seemed to have lost it now..with most of my post being somewhat perfunctory ..I wonder why..could it be because I'd started work and therefore more brain dead? Actuallly, my english has deteriorated quite a bit too. My grammar can be truly atrocious at times and sometimes, I find myself having problems forming sentences..*arghh*. To think that I used to score As for my english and Lit..I thought writing more was supposed to improve one's writing skills..clearly not so..

The whole family including my in-laws will be heading for Goldcoast this Saturday. Initially, I was thinking of cancelling the trip in view of the current state of my employment but after being 'played out' so many times [yes, we've heard that the release date of the list would probably be much later], I decided heck it lah..why get bogged down by work stuff and have a good holiday..I'm sure Aidan would definitely enjoy feeding the dolphins at the Tangalooma Resort and the various other attractions there eg. Sea World, Movie World etc.. Me..I'm wondering whether there are any factory outlets in Goldcoast which I can go visit during one of our 'free' days there [yeah, I'm such a typical Singaporean tourist]..

I asked Nenita whether she would like to return to Philipines during the period that we won't be around (about 9 days plus)..I offered to pay for her airfare. Initially, I'd thought that she would jump at the opportunity to go home to see her son but strangely, she was quite subdued. She said that she'll think about it. Later, she approached me and asked whether i was happy with her work. She said she was worried because 2 of her friends had similar offers from their employers and when they were back in Philipines, the employers cancelled their work permit! [so evil!]

I quickly assured her that this wasn't the case and that I just wanted a win-win situation for us.. and that it never crossed my mind to terminate her contract. You should have seen the look of relief on her face. Honestly, so far..Nenita has been a good maid..she cares for Aidan well, my apartment is kept clean, our clothes are washed and nicely ironed, hubby is pleased with the way the car is washed..I really have nothing to complain about. Even hard to please mom-in-law finds her performance satisfactory which is considered good since mom is really fussy. Anyway, she declined the offer still as she said she wanted to save more money so that she'll have more goodies to bring to them when she visits her family after her 2 year contract is over.

One of my worry though is that should I really not have a job by early next year, I may be forced to let her go.. And if that happens, I really hope I can find her a good employer..and I'll definitely be giving her a solid reference then..But, let's just hope I'll still be employed then...

Hi there,
have been reading your journal quite some time.

I've been to Tangalooma Resort before. It's fabulous over there. If u are planning to stay overnite there with yr family, I suggest u book the villa (can accommodate up to 9 adults or more) and if possible book directly w/o the agent. It's definitely much cheaper that way.

Anyway there is this place call habourtown, near the railway stn (can’t rem the name) before u get to goldcoast. Prices there are much cheaper than Pacifictown at goldcoast.

During the weekends (fri nite, sat and sun), there are fleamarkets along the beach. And if u like cabaret, u can have your dinner at Dracula’s (http://www.draculas.com.au/). But the jokes are very Aussie. And if time permits, try to go for the mudcrab and pelican tour. I think your folks wld enjoy that.

If u need more info abt brisbane/goldcoast I can email to u. Used to study there.

I will be staying one night at Tangalooma Resort..in fact, the first place we'll be going when we reach Brisbane airport is to head for the resort..

Yeah.i heard of harbourtown..am curious how far it will be from surfer's paradise..Just received my itinerary and realised it will be quite packed till the last day where we have the entire day free. I heard that the shops in Brisbane closes early...u have any idea what time?

Also realised most of our evenings/nights are free because the land tours usually are in the day so I may take up ur suggestion.

Thanks for ur info..really appreciate it coz it's our first time there and we purposely chose Goldcoast instead of Sydney or Melbourne coz we thought Aidan would probably enjoy himself there more..

Angie, in the event that you wanna release Nenita next year, PLMK.

I've a strong feeling Sri might not renew her contract with us and I need an independent maid who can run my household.

will let u know then..even if i do lose my job, i told hubby to give me a 3 month period to look for a job and to keep Nenita for that time too..

when's Sri's contract up?

Heh, I'm glad you kept a blog too. Besides being an interesting read (and an outlet for me to "kachow" you occasionally *lol*), it could even become an instruction manual of sorts when I have my own kid ... erm, I'll get wifey to read it coz there are some womenly stuff I "catch no ball". :)

It's great you treat your maid so decently, which is more than I can say for quite a few S'poreans I know. I think it's kinda detestable of some folks to treat their domestic helpers like gully slaves. Sure they need disciplining sometimes (yes, I've heard the "horror stories"), but I think it's fundamental human nature to respond more positively and be more caring/helpful to folks who treat you with decency and respect. Same too for maids. Yup, bad things are more likely to befall employers who do bad things to their maids. It's the karmic cycle. *oohmmm* ;)

heh..wadaya mean 'an outlet..to kachow' you' *bish*..me punching bag for gorilla ah?

heh..u don't need any instruction manual when u do become a daddy lah. It's OTJ! All the way! So..*nudge nudge*..when will u ever convert to hubby/daddy status?

Yeah..initially my post was gonna be about ill-treatment of maids in Singapore but i changed my mind coz everyone can read abt it..But i know it's still happening in Singapore. I acknowledge that it goes both ways too..I also know that even though things may be fine now btwn me n my maid, who knows what will happen in the future coz circumstances and people do change.. But for now, I'm happy with the way things are & i consider myself blessed that things have been working out so far (with the exception of the job front :P)

I enjoy reading your blog too, and I think you're like the only blogger who has been pretty consistent with your entries :)

And it's always interesting to track Aidan's growth, and he REALLY looks soooo different from when I first saw him... Time flies man, his second birthday already so close liao...

Enjoy your stay at Gold Coast :) Got plan to buy stuff for me or not hur hur hur...

your posts has always been a good source of joy (of looking at Aidan as he is growing up), awwwws (at the description of the little things that only babies and little boys are capable of) and is always interesting to read (even though I rarely comment anymore).

hmmm, come think of it, it's like an online version of "Here's looking at you, babe" only more real IMO. :)

Anyways, just wanna say that hope everythings works out ok (even if not perfectly) and most impt of all, enjoy your trip!!!

Factory outlet eh? *hint hint*

aiyah .. wasted! Bad timing! My helper Eny will be taking a Hari Raya break for 2 weeks back to Indonesia from 16/11 (1 day after HR coz airlines all fully booked!) Could have 'borrowed' Nenita .. so how's she going to spend her time for 9 long days?

Will let her stay at home..she said she wanna do 'major' cleaning while we are away..eg. wash all the sofa covers, the curtains etc..I do trust her so I'm fine with it. She even said that if im not comfy, i can get my bro to check on her regularly..

when Eny is not ard, feel free to drop Ryan at my place with Aidan and Nenita if u want some 'peace'..
