Happy like a Birdy~

Both hubby and I were on leave today so we'd decided to let the li' bugger ponteng school and bring him to the Jurong Birdpark since we've never been there..

Well, we didn't ended up viewing many birds in the end. Aidan plonked himself into the push trolley which was at the side of the entrance into the birdpark and refused to get out of it. So we had no choice but to rent it ($10) and we took turns pushing/pulling the trolley with the li' bugger in it. He simply glanced at the various birds that we pointed out to him, with not much excitement. Even the striking pink flamingos didn't warrant a second look and the lazy bugger just sat comfortably in the trolley sipping his water as his poor parents were frying under the hot sun.

It was only when we reached the water park that his face lit up and he quickly alighted from the trolley. So there u have it..the li' one, as you can see from the pics below, was happy like a bird at the birdpark :)

Next time, we'll just bring him to Bugis to play with the water instead!

Here's another CNY outfit of his :)
Together with Chloe..

heh..they are holding hands :)

This CNY was good for me :) Won over $1k in mahjong over the past week..But had given out lotsa red packets too. I dunno man but there seems to be more kids this year. Every place we visited, each family seemed to have more 1 kid. Lugi man! Time to consider having a second one *grin*

I think there is no escaping from the terrible 2s. Was hoping that Aidan will remain his good natured self but since the start of the year, the li' bugger has become more stubborn and naughty. He's such an active li' bugger and I gotta admit, we do let him get his way most of the time.

Nowadays, whenever he doesn't get what he wants, he'll start bawling loudly or will whine so pitifully and no amount of timeout and calm reasoning will quieten him. I really marvel at his ability to turn on the watertap. And the minute we finally give in, he'll just stop crying prompto..and we'd spied him smiling away deviously on several occasions and we knew he got us wrapped around his teeny fingers *sigh* I really don't know what to do with him at times. Really hope he doesn't end up being one mega brat!

At least he's still afraid of me at times because I seem to be the only one who reprimands him and smack his bottom once in a while when he gets too out of hand. Honestly, I'm seriously thinking of introducing him to the cane if he continues to be so michevious..

Looks like so much fun! It is so beautiful and warm looking there...it just snowed here, again, and it's cooold.

it's always warm here in Singapore. Sometimes, we do wish that we can have different seasons instead of just plain ol' sun and rain :P Heh..we'll never be satisfied *grin*

I love snow..though i probably will complain abt it if im in country that snows often and i gotta shovel it off the walkway :P

u dont have to cane him, but u have to be willing to mean NO when you say it no matter how much he screams, cries and whines. Ignoring bad behaviour instead of rewarding it by paying attention to him is quite effective if you have the will power. :D you KNOW he has you wrapped around your finger, so you have to nip this in the bud before it gets out of hand.

and i adore the 1st pic of him holding hands with chole, he has that ham sup satisfied look on his face, i can just imagine him being a playboy when older!!! hahahaha :P

its really easier said than done..we try so hard not to relent but there are times when he cries till he vomits. It can be really trying. Most of the time I try to give him 'timeout' after explaining to him why he cant have his way but it doesnt always works. And its even tougher when we are outdoors..at least at home, its only us who has to deal with his tantrums.

i know having the cane won't help solve matter but at least i hope to make him fear it. Actually, i hardly smack him for that matter. I think i can count the no. of times on one hand alone..that's how little i do..and he didn't need much disciplining before that's why too..

heh..yeah, im waiting for pple to complain that im abusing my kid. But u know me lah..u've seen me with Aidan. I can be stern but i won't resort to 'abusing' him :P

At least Aidan wants to sit in the trolley, then you guys didn't need to carry him or chase after him.... Sure look like you guys had great family time. So did you find West Coast Park that day?
Feb. 15th, 2005 02:00 pm (UTC)
heh true. Actually we r lucky in that he doesnt mind running abt or sitting in his stroller or a trolley..

Yeah..managed to find West Coast but it was SO CROWDED!!!! He ended up just playing with the sand most of the time. The place is huge man! Thanks for the navigation!
Feb. 15th, 2005 01:13 am (UTC)
that trolley must be quite hard to push? Shoudl bring him to BJ, at least no need to pay admission fees! Happy CNY to your family!
Feb. 15th, 2005 03:01 pm (UTC)
actually, it was very easy to navigate..esp downhill :)
Happy CNY!

so sweet the way he and Chloe held hands :) welcome to the "terrible 2s" phase of the fun...gabe has the same problem...esp. with his grandparents who give in to him everything! i am the most strict and my "no" means NO, the rascal knows it. so if he insisted, i just ask him if he want to me smack, he will say no and give in...and if he insisted even after the warning, we just have to carry out the punishment....no choice lah....these toddlers only need the adults to give in once and they will learn the tricks...good luck and have fun :)
Feb. 15th, 2005 03:04 pm (UTC)
does gabe cry if u dun let him have his way? Aidan doesnt listen to my reasoning or threats. he just cry n cry *argh*

not commenting on the T2s cause jon's now in that phase too. know how difficult it is. To cane or not to is really your discretion.

i simply love the pic of aidan holding chloe's hand...he looks like those shu qin movie where the actor quietly tried to hold the girl's hand without her noticing....so cute!
Feb. 15th, 2005 01:58 pm (UTC)
i dunno lah..hubby was wonderin abt it and i started thinkin abt it too..

hehe..your mind v good..can think abt shu qin movies somemore hehe..

you can create your own fountain too! just make him run around in circles in your bathroom and turn the hose on him
Feb. 15th, 2005 01:57 pm (UTC)
and i'll probably end up all drenched as a result..

aidan loves water lah..we still have trouble getting him out of the bathtub at times..he likes to sit there n play till he becomes a raisin!
Feb. 15th, 2005 09:08 am (UTC)
I wouldn't mind renting that push wagon if Charlotte would sit in it instead of running around. haha. Charlotte loves water play too! Now I think I know where to bring her for her birthday next month :)

Aidan look so cute! Especially he's fair and look good in any colour of Chinese suits. heh heh.
Feb. 15th, 2005 01:56 pm (UTC)
Aidan usually loves to run abt but he loves trolleys too hehe..I prefered to pull whereas hubby likes to push hehe..Honestly, the water play area at the zoo is better and bigger than the one at Birdpark but the latter is less crowded which could be better for a small child coz the zoo tends to have many big kids running ard...

haha .. amongst all the chinese costume, eh .. i think this is the mostest
NOT nice! the color combination lah .. can use as PJ maybe ;P
All our kiddos are going thru the T2 phase .. just have to find a way that works .. and I truely doubt u'd ever introduce the cane to Aidan ... Knowing how smart Aidan is, he'd probly run crying pitifully and take cover from Nenita or daddy or your ILs .. and make u the bad mummy ;P
Feb. 15th, 2005 01:54 pm (UTC)
LOL! I have to agree with u..actually, he is using it as a PJ..how smart of u *grin*

*sigh* sometimes, really wonder how to deal with an unruly child. At times, I can actually see in his face that he's plotting his next move..i fear what im afraid the most will come true..that he'll be just as naughty as me when i was a kid and i was introduced to the cane v early :P I know i wont use it on him ...more of to threaten him. I hardly even smack him..if i do its on his bum..one of his fleshiest part of his body :P Aiyah, xin tai luan!
Feb. 15th, 2005 03:07 pm (UTC)
Hee, so cute, you call him lil bugger :P
Feb. 16th, 2005 02:00 pm (UTC)
heh..yeah, called him that since he was a li' baby and the name stuck :P

The water park reminded me when i brought Sarah there last year. She and Glenda had so much fun.We will have difficulty dragging them out of there if not be'cos all the water had stopped suddenly :)

Sigh! Sarah also in her terrible 2 stage. When you get her to do things she will say "Dont want" When she wants something she will cry & cry & cry. Even hitting her hand is useless. We have to go soft with her or distract her with other stuff. The hard way doesn't work. Have you tried distraction with him?
Feb. 16th, 2005 02:04 pm (UTC)
heh..actually, there is a control switch to activate the water. Hubby discovered it :P

We've tried distraction before but at times, when he really really wants something badly, he won't settle for anything else. Distraction worked much easier when he was younger..i guess it's all part of growing up and they discovering themselves and their needs/wants..

Welcome to the T2 club! Yes, how they can be an angel one moment and a monster the next is beyond me too. But this is also the stage where you'll see speedy development in all areas like speech, social and motor skills, so sit back and enjoy these endearing moments. :)
Feb. 16th, 2005 02:05 pm (UTC)
yeah..aidan's just discovered how to really jump about 1 month back and he's been jumping up n down nonstop..

His speech devt is still slow though..but im trying to act nonchalent (although it worries me at times) :P..

Well, like what u said, this period of time can make for really endearing moments too :)
