i need zzzZZZzzzzz!

Believe it or not, I've not slept since Wednesday afternoon! That's like more than 48 hours without sleep! I'm feeling like a zombie man!

Was down with the chills on Monday evening and by Tuesday, my flu became full blown which meant that I had to cancel our anniversary dinner *sigh*. Went to the doc who gave me 2 days MC. Doc gave me antibiotics (tidact/clindamycin), paracetamol, cough syrup (benadryl) and something to gargle for my sorethroat. The meds made me groggy and I slept like a log on Tues and Wed, waking at 12 noon. Had a runny nose then so I looked through my medicine cabinet and found some Zrtec-D tablets and took it with my other meds. That night, I tossed and turned on my bed. I was really tired but my mind was so active and I just couldn't sleep. And then morning came! So I went to work yesterday with a heavy head and drooping eyelids..It was the TNP New Face finals and I had to help out that night. My boss asked me to go home to take a rest but again, I wasn't able to sleep even though i was sooooooo tired. Gave up trying to nap and got ready for the event. Was at the post-party at Thumper till about midnight so I thought that I would be able to sleep well that night. By then, I'd already stopped all medication with the exception of the antibiotics which had to be completed. And guess who spent yesterday night wide awake..

Just came back from our office doctor who said that the antibiotics could be the med that's keeping me awake. *ARGHHHH*. She prescribed another cough syrup (dhasedyl) and a flu tab (chlorpheniramine) which is supposed to make me really groggy! I really hope the meds work man.Doc gave me another MC but I can't afford to take it as I have tons of ads to clear! .I think I'm gonna start hallucinating soon and am having such a splitting headache and nausea, due to the lack of zz. This is torture man..

aiyoh you poor thing you!
i know how you feel- last year when i was really ill the whole year, i was given drowsy meds too but they didn't work coz my mind was racing with work every minute. so even the most potent combination didn't work! very frustrating, especially when you need the rest.
my solution was going for a massage and lots of hot baths- that put my body in a slight "sleep" mode. can you delegate your work? you really need the rest, because you need to really recover well and not let this drag onto become something more serious.

please take care woman!

hm..a massage is very tempting although im not sure whether it is a good idea to have one when one isn't well (i'm running a slight fever too). but man, my body aches like crazy.

actually it's okay to have a light swedish massage. just don't go for the deep tissue types! a light massage will also aid circulation, especially when your body is knocked up full of medication- toxin buildup!

goodness, you must be so very tired!

eh maybe you need to meditate first to calm the mind. and a hot shower before sleeping usually helps.

and don't work already lah, you need rest!

I can understand cos that happened to me once before. For me, it was the flu medicine that kept me awake. And yes, even after i've stopped the med, the effect lasted up to the next 48 hours.

these days I try not to take medication for flu. I stick to plain old cold panadol which works better for me than the med from the docs. If the flu is very bad, I just take lots of Vit C and wait for the body to build the immunity up.

Oh man :( that's awful! You're an insomniac against your will. I find what helps me sleep is taking a nice long bath right before bed. But I know hits hard to shut off your brain. I hope you get some decent sound sleep soon!

somehow i don't think it's the clindamycin causing the sleeplessness, but rather the decongestant that was in zyrtec-D. it's a known side effect of decongestants that they can cause sleeplessness, so the trick is to take any medicines containing decongestants such as pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine at least an hour before you go to bed.

switching to chlorpheniramine is much better. you'll definitely won't get the sleeplessness coz it is just a plain antihistamine without the decongestant. plus it has a drowsy side effect. plus the codeine and promethazine in dhasedyl should knock you out, though the ephedrine in it may slightly counter the effects. overall you should be able to sleep like a babe tonight.

enjoy your long awaited night's rest!

Oh dear, get well soon!! I got my flu shot earlier in the week because I don't want to get sick here where I will be all gummed up by my lonesome self :*( Happened to me twice in France and I am not going through that again.

to be honest, the results was somewhat unexpected imo. but as with all pageants, there are always some element of surprise. i thought the girls performed great..esp their catwalk but man, the show was marred by the mc! andrea is really bad at hosting 'live'!

hello!
hi angelia.. do take care! hope you're feeling better soon!

anyways i would just like to ask, have you ever sent aidan for any talent/beauty competitions? i'm a student from NTU and i'm doing a sociology essay on children who participate in such events. if u have any friends who have sent their kids, it'd be a big help too. thank you lots!
